Medical Services
Dr. Susan E. Neil, M.D. provides preventative and acute care for adults. This type of care is designed to diagnose, treat and prevent episodes of illness or injury. Dr. Susan Neil believes that you look your best when you feel the best. She can help evaluate your health through EKGs, pulmonary testing, lab tests and bioidentical hormone replacement. As a skin care expert, she can also evaluate and treat common skin conditions including skin biopsy and removal of benign lesions.
EKG Testing
An electrocardiogram -- also called an EKG or ECG -- checks for signs of heart disease. It's a test that records the electrical activity of your ticker through small electrode patches that a technician attaches to the skin of your chest, arms, and legs. EKGs are quick, safe, and painless. With this test, Dr. Neil will be able to: check your heart rhythm, see if you have poor blood flow to your heart muscle and check on things that are abnormal, such as thickened heart muscle.
Pulmonary Testing
Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are a group of tests that measure how well your lungs work. This includes how well you’re able to breathe and how effective your lungs are able to bring oxygen to the rest of your body. This is helpful in diagnosing asthma, allergies, COPD, chronic bronchitis, respiratory infections, lung fibrosis, lung cancer and more.
Lab Testing
Laboratory tests check a sample of your blood, urine, or body tissues. The tests are analyzed to see if your results fall within the normal range. Lab tests are often part of a routine checkup to look for changes in your health. This helps us diagnose medical conditions, plan or evaluate treatments, and monitor diseases. In addition to local lab testing, we use the Boston Heart Lab for cardiovascular risk assessments and then create a treatment plan that often includes a customized nutrition plan.
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT, can be used to treat men and women when their hormone levels drop or become unbalanced. It’s most frequently used to ease symptoms of peromenopause and menopause. It may also be used to treat conditions such as insulin resistance, adrenal and thyroid disorders, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia.
Wellness
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Dr. Susan Neil can work with you develop a individualized plan to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.
Blood Sugar Monitoring
For patients managing diabetes, checking your blood sugar and tracking your numbers is an important part of your diabetes care plan. Dr. Susan Neil can help you get started by using continuous blood sugar monitoring devices from Medtronic which are worn all day for 3 to 6 days. This helps you see the changes in your blood sugar and can help you better understand how physical activity, what you eat, and stress affect your blood sugar levels. Dr. Neil can help you make your diabetes care plan.
